The Chief Judge is pleased to announce the appointment as Commissioners of the Court of Ms Nicola Targett and Ms Emma Washington for a term of 7 years commencing on 28 June 2024 and 1 July 2024 respectively.
Ms Targett has served as an Acting Commissioner of the Court since May 2023, presiding over a full range of environmental and planning matters in Class 1 and 2 and land valuation and compulsory acquisition matters in Class 3 of the Court’s jurisdiction. Ms Targett is a practising environmental and planning lawyer, with 13 years’ applied experience, mostly at Henry Davis York and Norton Rose Fulbright. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology Sydney. Ms Targett’s practice covers all areas of environmental law, including planning, heritage, pollution, contaminated land and compulsory acquisition of land.
Ms Washington has served as an Acting Commissioner of the Court since November 2020, presiding over a full range of environmental and planning matters in Class 1 and 2 of the Court’s jurisdiction. Ms Washington has over 20 years’ applied experience in landscape architecture, urban design, infrastructure design and construction, strategic planning and development assessment. Ms Washington holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours) from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Environmental Law from the University of Sydney and a Diploma of Sustainable Living from the University of Tasmania. She is currently enrolled in a Master of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Sydney. Ms Washington held chartership with the Landscape Institute of the United Kingdom whilst she worked in the UK and is currently a senior registered landscape architect with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. Ms Washington is a nationally accredited mediator.
