How to get to court

If you are new to the Court, finding your way to and around the Court building can take some time. Make sure you arrive at the Court early so you can find where to go and prepare for your case.

​Locations

The Land and Environment Court sits in a number of locations. These locations include hearings on the site of the property in dispute, Local Court courthouses and in the Land and Environment Court building in Sydney. Find the location details of Local Court courthouses.

Onsite Locations

Some hearings and conciliation conferences are held on the site of the property in dispute, or commence at the site of the property in dispute.

If the hearing or conciliation conference is going to be held on the site or commence at the site, you can expect that the Commissioner or Judge will meet the parties at the front of the site or property.

For onsite locations, please note if the location is private property, entry into the private property must be with the consent of the owner and/or occupier.

If you are unsure of the meeting place for the onsite location:

  • ​If you are a party to the proceedings, you should seek clarification from the other parties or their legal representatives (if represented) and advise the Court of the arrangements;
  • If you are a witness in the proceedings, you should seek clarification from the legal representative of the party who has engaged you; or
  • If you are an objector to a proposal the subject of the proceedings, you should contact the legal representatives for the Council​.

Address of the Land and Environment Court building

The Land and Environment Court central registry is located at 225 Macquarie Street (Windeyer Chambers), Sydney NSW. It is diagonally opposite Sydney Eye Hospital and 30 metres from the top of Martin Place. Noticeboards displaying the daily Court lists are located on the ground floor of the building and on the Registry level (level 4). The courtrooms themselves are located on Levels 1, 3, 5, 10, 11, 12 and 13 of the same building.

Transport and parking

By train

The nearest stations are Martin Place and St James. If arriving at Martin Place Station, exit the station, walk to the top of Martin Place until you reach Macquarie Street. Turn right and the entrance to 225 Macquarie Street is about 30 metres on the right hand side. If arriving at St James Station, take the exit for Queens Square. Cross the square towards the large Supreme Court building and walk along Macquarie Street in the direction of Circular Quay. The entrance to 225 Macquarie Street is approximately 40 metres on the left hand side, just after the street cafes.

By bus

Depending on which bus route you may be taking into the city, you will need to walk up to Macquarie Street which runs parallel to Elizabeth, Castlereagh, Pitt and George Streets. 225 Macquarie Street is located towards the Hyde Park end of the street, opposite the Sydney Hospital and the Sydney Mint buildings.

By private vehicle

Suggested parking stations are located at the rear of Sydney Eye Hospital, Hospital Road, The Domain (Sir John Young Crescent), Chifley Tower (2 Hunter Street) and the Theatre Royal (MLC Centre, 120 King Street). All of these involve approximately a 5-10 minute walk to reach the Court’s building. On-street parking, especially on Macquarie Street is extremely limited for anything other than a short stay.

Disability access

There is designated parking for people with disabilities located from Macquarie Street (two spaces) and Phillip Street (one space).

The entrance of the building from Macquarie Street is wheelchair accessible. The courtrooms themselves are accessed by lifts from the ground floor and are all wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair access toilet is located on level 4.

Registry hours of operation

The Registry office is open between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. For those wishing to observe a hearing of the Court, it is recommended that you check the Court List to ascertain the approximate start time.
