Use of Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams (Teams) is another method by which hearings, conciliation conferences, mediations and any other listing type can be conducted the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales (the Court).

Photo, Video and Sound recording of a NSW Court proceeding is prohibited under Section (9) of the Court Security Act 2005. Penalties Apply: Maximum Penalty $22,000 or 12 months imprisonment (or both).

Use of “AI Bots” to record and transcribe proceedings is also prohibited.

Requesting an appearance via Microsoft Teams

The process to request and arrange an appearance via Microsoft Teams follows the same process as defined in the “AVL Protocol” and “AVL Guidelines”.

Appearances using Microsoft Teams

Once an order has been made for an appearance by Microsoft Teams, it is the responsibility of the legal representative, agent or party to provide the details of all participants appearing to the Court by Microsoft Teams. The notification is to be sent at least 3 days prior to the listings for which an appearance by Teams has been ordered. The notification is to be sent to leclistings@justice.nsw.gov.au.

The notification is to include, the participant name, their role in the hearing and their email address.

NOTE: due to limitations of Microsoft Teams, any email addresses provided are available to be viewed by all participants within the Microsoft Teams meeting. It is NOT possible to hide an email address in Microsoft Teams.

Observing proceedings by Microsoft Teams

A court listing conducted by Teams is a formal court proceeding. All usual court etiquette, protocols, procedures and restrictions apply. To prevent interruption of court proceedings when observing by Teams please keep your microphone on mute and turn your camera off.

If you would like to observe a court listing that is being conducted by Teams please submit your request to the court by the following means:

Proceedings before a Commissioner

Contact the Registry at leclistings@justice.nsw.gov.au with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • The name and case number of the proceedings you wish to observe
  • The date the proceedings are listed

Proceedings before a Judge

Contact the chambers of the Judge presiding over the proceedings with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • The name and case number of the proceedings you wish to observe
  • The date the proceedings are listed
