Hearing assistance

All courtrooms at the Land & Environment Court are fitted with an Infrared Hearing Assistance device.

Please ask the Court Officer for a device if you would like assistance.

Device mirroring via HDMI cable

Parties can have the option to electronically display documents, photos, images, maps, drawings and/or play video or audio files through the court’s audio visual system using device mirroring.

Permission to use device mirroring must be sought from the presiding officer and adhere to the Evidence (Audio and Audio Visual Links) Act 1998.

Device mirroring is integrated so that a person appearing by AVL is able to see what a court user is displaying.

Parties, witnesses and legal representatives wishing to use device mirroring must use their own devices and ensure their device is capable of device mirroring. No technical support is able to be provided by the Court for device mirroring.

Various converter attachments are available at the bar table of each courtroom for “Apple/iOS Lightning” or PC/Google/Chrome “USB-C” to connect devices for device mirroring, however the ideal connectivity to the court’s audio visual system is by a HDMI cable.

Parties must be prepared to provide a hard copy of any electronic medium they propose to display at the direction of the presiding officer.

Audio visual system

(for participants in a proceeding - not for observers)

All courtrooms at the Land and Environment Court of NSW have audio visual systems in place that support video, telephone and audio appearances if ordered by the presiding officer.

If a court user proposes to use the audio visual system to participant in a proceeding:

  • review the AVL Protocols and AVL Guidelines;
  • if you are a party to a proceeding, discuss your proposed use of the audio visual system with the other party(s) in the proceeding; and
  • seek an order from the presiding officer for the matter or specific appearance(s) in which you are seeking to use AVL.

Note: Matters listed in the "Registrar's direction - by AVL" do not require a Court order.
